Mottled Blue Studio Pottery Planter

Beautifully blue.

The glaze is what makes this shallow pottery planter so appealing. Deep teal gathers around the lower bowl, while softer aqua and smoky blue move toward the rim in fine variations that make every side a little different. The warm terracotta-colored clay peeking through underneath gives all that blue a lovely contrast.

Why It Stands Out

There’s a handmade quality to this pot that gives it more character than a simple everyday planter. The glossy glaze shifts between blue, teal, and aqua, while the low rounded shape shows off the glaze beautifully.

Inside, the glaze extends about two inches below the rim before giving way to the natural clay. Incised initials are visible on the interior base, although the maker has not been identified.

Styling & Use

Its wide, shallow shape works especially well for succulents, cacti, bonsai-style plantings, or a compact grouping of small plants. A drainage hole in the base makes it suitable for planted use; because there is no attached saucer, place it on a catch plate or protected surface when watering.

It’s also attractive enough to leave empty on a shelf, console, plant stand, or stack of books when you simply want a little color in the room.
