Sometimes the most fun discoveries begin with an object that simply catches your eye.
I found this blue-and-white tray while thrifting and was immediately drawn to it's repeating wave pattern. I didn't know anything about the design at the time. I just knew I liked it.
A little research later, I learned that the pattern appears to be a form Seigaiha (say-guy-ha), a traditional Japanese pattern composed of overlapping concentric waves. The motif has been used for centuries and is associated with peace, resilience, and good fortune.
That discovery made me appreciate the tray even more. Sometimes what you bring home is more than the object itself. It can lead to a story, a bit of history, and new learning.
